Dr. Hope Finlay loves her job as an emergency room physician, especially since it allows her only brief encounters with her patients. She learned early in life not to get attached to anyone because it never lasts.

Laleh Samadi, a waitress at her aunt’s restaurant, is the exact opposite. She easily connects with people and loves her big, boisterous Persian family, despite their tendency to meddle in her life.

When Laleh needs to be rushed to the ER with heart trouble, Hope saves her life. Afterwards, strange things begin to occur: Why does Laleh suddenly know even the most obscure diseases, while Hope is fluent in Farsi?

Soon, they can no longer deny that there’s a mysterious connection between them—one that becomes stronger with each passing day.
Are they losing their minds…or their hearts?

4 Stars

Heart Trouble is an adorably delicious Romance with a hint of magic! Laleh has some problems with her heart and one night winds up in the emergency room. Hope is the doctor and duty, so she must get her patient’s heart start again. Well, she gets a little jolt from the defibrillator. After that, things change. Hope is suddenly fluent in Farsi and Laleh has a deep understanding of all things medical. The two also seem to have an emotional connection, but is it real, or another side effect?

I adored Heart Trouble! I love the little magical twist on another otherwise Contemporary Romance. It added an interesting and fresh type of drama. Hope is out and proud, but Laleh believes she’s straight. When she starts spending a lot of time with Hope, is she actually developing feelings for her or is the connection forged by the jolt? Is Laleh even gay, or is that something else she “inherited” from Hope?! No one knows! It’s so confusing for them, but they work through it!

As for the delicious part, there’s a lot of Persian food in Heart Trouble which made me hungry! But it was the romance that kept me engaged. I loved how Hope and Laleh actually spent time together, usually trying to figure out the extent of their bond. And once the kissing starts, things surely heat up!
